GEMS World Academy – Abu Dhabi seeks to make the most appropriate grade placement for each student based on his or her age, as well as academic, social and emotional development within policy guidelines. For this reason, new students may be required to complete an appropriate level assessment to determine placement and fit.
In some instances, students may be asked to return for additional testing or interviewing. GWA closely observes and monitors the grade placement for all new students for at least a three-week period to ensure that students have been appropriately placed. The school reserves the right to rescind admission should the placement not be appropriate for the program or child as determined by the school.
GWA does not provide full service special education resources to students with an individualized education plan (IEP) from previous schools. Students must be successful with moderate assistance in the regular classroom curriculum program provided or they may not be eligible to continue in the program.
English Language Proficiency
In order for students to fully participate in the school’s instructional programs, students are required to have English language proficiency. Students may be admitted without such proficiency provided they satisfy all enrollment regulations and qualify for GWA’s ESL program, subject to availability of space, as a mandatory fee for service program.
All new students must provide official documentation of previous school experience, including transcripts, report card and test scores. All documents provided must be in English. GWA may request certification of translation from the Consulate of the country in which the student last attended to meet admission requirements.
Payment of Fees
Tuition and fees are payable in advance of attendance and are assessed in accordance with the fee structure established by GEMS. Tuition and fees are the primary source of the school’s operating budget and therefore prompt payment is necessary to ensure the continuing quality of GWA’s programs.
Parents should note that even if their employer does provide education benefits, the company may not be considered a “Company Pay” account for GWA. Parents should check with the Registrar to inquire about their employer’s status. Parents may have to pay the tuition first and then be reimbursed from their employer, which may have financial implications for families new to Abu Dhabi.
Companies and organizations that have a current account with GWA are requested to provide parents of new students a letter stating that the company will be responsible for payment of tuition and fees. These companies are then required to pay the registration fee, tuition for the current semester within 30 days of the date the new student is accepted for enrollment.
Parent Pay Accounts
Payment invoices and receipts cannot be split between the parent and a sponsoring company. If a company’s policy does not provide for full payment of school fees, the student account will be shown as a parent pay in the school’s records. This requires parents to pay the registration fee, tuition for the current semester upon initial enrollment and before class attendance. Parents would then seek reimbursement from their company.
Methods of Payment
All tuition and fees are payable in UAE Dirhams only. Funds may be drawn on a UAE bank through a personal check or a bank draft.
Tuition is refundable only for the semester in which a student does not attend school. Any attendance during a nine week quarter will negate a refund for that quarter. The registration and testing fees are nonrefundable. For Kindergarten 1 students only, a full refund will be made if the Principal determines that the child is not ready for the program.
